Lightning Strikes Causing Outages

Lightning strike are causing power outages across VEC's service area Tuesday evening.

The most severe strike at VEC's Crossville Substation that caused a fire. Firefighters were working to extinguish the fire as of 4:06 Central Time and VEC crews were waiting to repair the damage as soon as they could get in. About  2,100 VEC customers are without power.

Lightning strikes also caused smaller outages at VEC's Sugar Grove and South Bradley substations in Bradley County. An automobile accident has also knocked out power to some customers in the Benton area of Polk County.
